Headteacher Mrs Barrett

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Staff and School’s Members Committee to welcome you to our School.

Golden Hill (Short Stay) School is a Primary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in Leyland. The School is commissioned by Lancashire Education Authority to provide full time education for primary education for pupils from Reception to Year 6 (4 to 11 years old) who have been permanently excluded from District 6 (Preston), District 7 (South Ribble), District 9 (Chorley). 154 primary schools in total. The School currently has places for up to 50 pupils. However the number of pupils attending Golden Hill fluctuates throughout the school year and the school population itself is transient.

In addition, subject to availability, Golden Hill offers 12 week placements for pupils in our schools districts who are at risk of permanent exclusion. These Pupil Referral placements are accessed by our half termly Referral Pupil Admission Panel Meeting.

We are all very proud of our school and pupils. We have high expectations and expect the very best for the pupils in our school. We strive to provide the best education possible for our pupils: re-engaging them with learning, ensuring their special educational needs are identified and understood. Our teaching and learning programmes enable all our pupils to be successful. Our pupils make outstanding academic progress whilst at our school.

Our school staff is an established, highly skilled team. All our staff are hardworking, extremely dedicated and place the needs of the pupils at the heart of everything we do. Our Teachers take pride in providing a wide range of stimulating curriculum opportunities for our pupils, including visits, outdoor education and visitors to school.

Golden Hill has a highly regarded Inclusion Support Team (GHIST) who work in District 6,7,8 and 9 to support mainstream schools in managing pupils with complex social, emotional and behavioural needs. This traded team offer an annual service level agreement for mainstream schools, including a wide range of pupil support, professional guidance and CPD training.

The School’s Members Committee (similar to a Mainstream School’s Governors) is very supportive.

As an Outstanding School we are committed to continuing to develop and enhance the educational provision we provide.

I look forward to meeting you.

Mrs Sarah Barrett
